Aren't we bad?! We've been so busy - and yet I couldn't tell you what with. You know that Erin has had a job change (if not the career change she's been seeking). I'm back at school - duh duh duuuuuhhh! And the volleyball season has restarted albeit not in earnest. What is there left to tell? Erin blitzed the blog this week in an attempt to undo the damage our neglect has caused to you blogonauts. Well, there is the minor detail of the Dohm Invasion!
| Planning their assault on the City - reunited at last! |
As will probably be customary for the forseeable future, the bi-annual Dohm-Madden convention (held primarily at two locations, SB & Belfast, though we are looking into alternative venues for future reunions) took place one month ago. We haven't run out of activities yet! Without a doubt the highlight was our weekend with the Maddens! We started it off on the Friday night with a smattering of trad music in a very rural pub garnished with a pint of the black stuff.
The craic was mighty between these two powerhouses - the glue
that holds each's respective family together. |
Anyone who has visited the Madden household knows that we take about 3 hours to start our day - and of course the culprit is our adoration for breakfast! This is OUR meal.
| Bellies a-swellin', stories we be a-tellin' |
| Leisurely stroll around the capital before our Matinee performance |
| What a beauty! |
| The river Liffey runs through this fair city |
| Genetic superiority! |
| The girls pose while the lads chat in the background |
| More food! This time dessert at Bewleys on Grafton St. |
Our sardine-can ride home brought a new meaning to personal
space invasion for us! Note to selves - don't travel to Dublin on the
day of All-Ireland Hurling Finals! |
Wrapping up the day with tea, coffee cake (yes, dessert round II),
and chats by the fire |
What a fun two days. But it was about to be topped. Miserable weather had dogged us thus far but on Sunday morning the Heavens parted the clouds and we hopped in our cars bound for uncharted territory - the Wicklow Mountains.
| The convoy en route |
Yes! Irish road users may have no regard for pedestrian's
lives but Heaven forbid we ever deny a sheep's right
to cross the road unscathed! |
| Tourist! |
Skimming! It had to be done. Unfortunately mum threw her shoulder
out on this attempt. |
| Tired but accomplished after 4 hours of walking! |
| This used to be a mining village |
| Jon and I tried to find the oldest tombstone - this one was 1769 |
| How else do you complete a trip to the Maddens? Ulster fry time! |
The Dohms continued on to the Noonans, then up to Galway, Donegal, Tyrone, and finally back to Belfast. I just went back to work - somebody has to.
| Back to Belfast - Jon with his Snickers Milkshake |
| No trip to Belfast would be complete without a trip to McHugh's |
| Farewell pint |
| Bye Dohms! Until CA 2014! |
